Study notes

水 means 'water'; it also indicates Wednesday, 水曜日 (すいようび).

In compound can become ずい: 洪水 (こうずい, flood).

Special readings: 清水 is read しみず (spring water; also surname) or せいすい (clear water), and 水面 is read すいめん or みなも (water surface).

Remember: to the left of many kanji related to liquids 水 takes the reduced form 氵, as in 海, 泳 and 酒.
